Luberon Villages Tour from Aix-en-Provence: Hilltop Charms, Olive Oil & Calissons

A full-day Provençal escape from Aix-en-Provence

Meet your guide in the morning at the Aix-en-Provence Tourist Office and set off towards the Luberon Regional Natural Park in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Your small-group format allows for a relaxed pace, photo stops, and personalized commentary on local history, landscapes, and gastronomy.

Discover the hilltop village of Gordes

Your first stop is Gordes, officially classified among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” Perched above the valley, the village offers breathtaking views over the Luberon and the stone-roofed houses that tumble down the hillside. Wander along narrow cobbled streets, admire the church and castle, and soak in the quintessential Provençal atmosphere.

(Depending on season and local conditions, you may also stop for a photo opportunity near the Cistercian Abbey of Sénanque, surrounded by lavender fields in summer.)

Free time for lunch

Around midday, enjoy free time for lunch in one of the villages or nearby (at your own expense). Your guide will be happy to suggest cafés or bistros featuring regional specialties and seasonal products.

Visit Lourmarin, a literary and cultural gem

In the afternoon, continue to Lourmarin, another village listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France,” known for its Renaissance château, shaded squares, and art galleries. Stroll through narrow streets lined with cafés and boutiques, admire the elegant façades, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that has inspired many writers and artists. Depending on opening times and your interests, you may choose to visit the château or simply explore the village at your own pace (entrance fees not included).

Monday–Saturday: Olive oil mill visit and tasting

From Monday to Saturday, your day also includes a visit to a local olive oil mill in the Luberon area. There, you discover the different stages of olive oil production, from the grove to the press, and learn how traditional methods meet modern techniques. A guided tasting allows you to compare several oils, identify their aromas, and better understand how to pair them with Provençal cuisine.

Sunday: Calisson Museum at Confiserie du Roy René

On Sundays, instead of the olive oil mill, your experience includes a stop at the Musée du Calisson at Confiserie du Roy René, on the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence. In this gourmet museum, you follow an immersive journey through almond orchards, nougat and Calisson d’Aix production, and historic confectionery tools, with exhibits that blend tradition and modern multimedia. You have time to explore the museum at your own pace and, if you wish, purchase calissons and other sweets in the boutique.

At the end of the afternoon, you return to Aix-en-Provence with a deeper appreciation of the Luberon’s villages, landscapes, and local flavors.
