Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire: Private Half-Day Wine Tour from Aix-en-Provence

This private half-day wine tour from Aix-en-Provence takes you
into the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire wine region — one of
Provence's most scenically dramatic and geologically distinctive
wine territories. Your expert English-speaking guide picks you up
directly from your hotel in Aix-en-Provence and leads you through
the landscapes that inspired Cézanne, into the vineyards, and
through two carefully selected family-owned estates for an
immersive introduction to the wines of this exceptional appellation.

The Sainte-Victoire Mountain: Cézanne's Provence

The tour opens with the landscape itself. The Sainte-Victoire
Mountain, located to the east of Aix-en-Provence, is one of the
most iconic natural landmarks in southern France — a striking
limestone ridge rising above forests, farmland, and pastoral
countryside that Paul Cézanne painted more than 80 times throughout
his life. Classified as a Grand Site de France since 2004,
alongside Mont Ventoux and the Sainte-Baume massif, it sets the
scene for the wine country that unfolds beneath it.

The Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire Appellation

The Côtes de Provence is one of France's largest wine appellations,
covering over 19,000 hectares and accounting for three-quarters of
all Provence wine production. Within it, the Sainte-Victoire
territory earned its own AOP designation in 2005 for red and rosé
wines — a recognition of the area's distinct terroir, shaped by
limestone hills in the northwest, crystalline soils in the
southwest, a warm dry climate, and the cooling influence of the
Mistral wind.

The appellation is built on traditional southern varieties —
Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Clairette among them — and produces
a wide range of styles. Rosé accounts for around 80% of production,
with wines known for their pale color and aromatic complexity:
white and yellow fruits, subtle vanilla, and a freshness that
makes them among the most food-friendly rosés in France. Structured
reds and elegant whites complete the picture.

Two Family-Owned Estates: Cellar Visits & Wine Tastings

The heart of the tour is a visit to two carefully chosen
family-owned estates in the Sainte-Victoire wine region. At each
domaine, your guide introduces the estate's history, the family
behind the wines, and the philosophy driving their approach in
the vineyard and the cellar. You visit the technical facilities —
the vat room, the aging cellars, and where applicable the
barrel room — gaining a clear understanding of how the wines
are made, how oak aging influences the final result, and what
distinguishes each estate's style from its neighbors.

Each visit concludes with a guided tasting of the estate's wines,
working through a selection of rosés, whites, and reds that
illustrates the range and quality of the Sainte-Victoire
appellation. Your guide provides commentary on each wine —
the vintage, the blend, the terroir influence — turning the
tasting into a genuine learning experience rather than simply
a glass of wine at the end of a cellar tour.

Return to Aix-en-Provence

At the close of the second estate visit, your guide drives you
back to Aix-en-Provence and drops you off at your hotel or
accommodation. As a fully private tour, the pace throughout
the day is flexible and can be adjusted to suit your group's
interests and energy.
